Thank You List, 2010

I feel like I only post once a year...

Here's a list of the things that I'm thankful for at this very moment. You know the drill.

I'll start off with the obvious ones:

Family: If I ever screw up, there's someone who will be there to help me out without question. I've realized very recently that that's something people like me take serious advantage of.
Mom: For finally letting me do Meg. Finally. I know that sounds snarky, but I really am thankful for your attention.
Dad: For helping me figure out what I really want to do with music.
Adam: For making your first solution to any of my problems "figuring out who needs to be beaten up first."
Ashley, Shay, and Shonta: For being the big sisters that I don't actually have.

Friends: Mostly for keeping me in check. But also for adventures!
BSC: I don't even know where to start. Thanks for giving the awkward freshman hermit a chance. Though I still think that half of you would mysteriously disappear if I got rid of my afro one day. ;)
AFSA: You guys basically made me who I am today. Thank you for giving the awkward 8th grade hermit a chance.
Seattleites: For showing me around the city and letting me eat your food. Also, holy shit, you guys are awesome. Like, I don't know if I adequately expressed how much fun I had with you guys while I was there, but you're amazing. I sincerely hope I get to visit you all in person again sometime soon.
Birmingham's Local Music Community: For actually listening. And letting me play music with you. And even paying sometimes to listen or play music with. I'm still totally stunned that the latter is actually happening to me.

Chris: You get your own bullet point because I didn't know whether to put you under friends or family. I know that we've both been busy people lately, so I really want to say thanks for all of the times you waited for me to get back from a gig just so that we could talk. And thank you for sharing your very tiny room with me over the summer. And thank you for always having epic facial hair, whether it's a beard or stubble. Yay genetics! ♥

Music: ...Duh.

And now for some more specific things:

The Magic Math: For helping me grow as a musician, fun car trips to out of town shows, and free booze.

1st United Methodist Church: For giving someone who isn't exactly religious the opportunity to sing with an amazingly talented and very friendly choir.

The Masons: I'm still upset about you guys having to leave, but the time that I had you for composition professors was wonderful. Thank you for spending time listening to my freshman year crap and seeing the potential in it.

Headbands, Glasses, and Hoodies: For days when I really don't care about who sees me.

Hair Dryers and Big Sexy Hair Spray: For days when I care about who sees me.

Practice Mutes: For letting me practice in my room when I'm too lazy to walk to the music building.

Debussy: You've been my go-to composer this year for when I need to chill the fuck out. I'm extremely thankful for you.

JVUF: For exposing me to local food and making me a healthier person.

Halloween: For being the one time a year that I get to be something totally ridiculous and have no regrets about it later.

Snuggies: ...I know we got off to a rough start. I made fun of you and thought you were a useless addition to the world. But now that I've seen the light I'm very appreciative of you, especially when I go practice piano in the music building at 2 in the morning. Your really freaking warm. And soft. ♥

Laptops, Cellphones, and Ludwig the iPod: I didn't realize how cool necessary they all are until I didn't have them.

This will be edited throughout the day as I think of more stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. ♥

I updated!

 HEY U GUYZ
Ahahaha, my last update was in May. Grab a snack before you read this.

So, I'm on celestialorb 's computer and there aren't any labels. Am I allowed to link to his page still? I wouldn't be shocked if Chris doesn't remember what LJ is or something. Anyway, I'm doing this mostly to get used to typing on this thing, which definitely hasn't happened yet.

Ok, got your rations? Good. Let's work backwards-ish.

Si! Attle!Collapse )

A few random thoughts that didn't fit anywhere elseCollapse )

I love y'all. <3

I AM A FRESHMEN NO MORE!!!! :D

...Hey, LJ. Long time, no post. :(
I have been reading and commenting on my flist's post! Just haven't had time for making one myself.
So here you go:

I had a jury, four finals (or three finals and THE THREE HOUR ESSAY EXAM FROM HELL), and a portfolio due this week. All of which I did on my period. Thanks, Uterus.
I'm wasn't very happy with any of them, which is probably worse than doing really really badly on them. Emotionally speaking, that is. I can't stand mediocrity. Especially with my music. >.<
I'm doing my best to let that stuff go, especially since getting through my 11 class semester has been a pretty big accomplishment in itself. But it's been kind of hard. :/

BUT SUMMER IS HERE!!! I'm still looking for a job and I'll miss my out-of-town college friends, but hell I DON'T HAVE TO LIVE IN THE MUSIC BUILDING DUNGEON FOR THREE WHOLE MONTHS. *partypartypartyinmyhead* :D :D :D :D
Yes, three months of my own room (I freaking love my roomie and it's already been demanded by my future suitemates that she comes and lives on the couch of the suite next year, but dammit I like sleeping with no pants on. o.o) and not having to worry if that smell in the shower is pee...
On the note of my suite next year: IT'S GOING TO BE AMAZING. Seriously, I have the best roomies ever. Be jealous.

This summer should be great. Two people have asked me if I want to go on beach/lake trips with them, which is all dependent on if and when I'm working, but that should be fun!
Pepper Place opens this Saturday! Hooray for finally being able to cook with fresh veggies again! And even though I didn't get the internship at JVUF this year, I want to sign up to volunteer. Because, as we all should know by now, that place fucking rocks. And I don't think my summer will be complete without coming home with basil stained fingers at least once.
And then there's catching up with high school friends, and seeing some local shows, and maybe even some not local shows (once again, JOB?), and THE SCREENING OF BLOOD INTO WINE THAT MAYNARD JUST ANNOUNCED ON TWITTER THAT'S GOING TO BE AT WORKPLAY JFDSIARNCQWIJS, and all that general merriment.
And! AND! I'm going to go see Chris! Which will be freaking epic!! ^_______________^
I'm excited to meet his friends in person and visit Seattle for the first time. I'm also excited to go cuddle his freaking face off for a couple of weeks. :3

Yay! Now I'm all happy and stuff. I'm gonna go pack and clean some more. <3

The One When Meg Did a Shameless Plug For Her Friends

So, my friends Lauren and Helen are entering a contest to sing live with INGRIG FREAKING MICHAELSON, and they need your help!
Just watch this video of them and help them get some hits. The video with the most hits will win the contest. You can watch it as many times as you want, even once will help. :)

I've said it once and I'll say it again: My friends are way too talented for me to be hanging around. ♥

*sigh* I'm beyond ready for my computer problems to be over. Can haz new laptop? And new music library? :(((((

In great contrast to the previous week, the week has been pretty damn fantastic. There are more things that made the week fantastic than I care to try and write with my iPod, but I'll go over the big ones. Yay? Yay. :D

First, this probably won't be very interesting to anyone at all, but I found the instrument that I really want to build for one of my class projects!
...Actually, I'm not going to talk about that. I think you'd need a video in order to know what I'm talking about. I'll post about that when I'm at an actual computer. :P

Anyway, Thursday night was the They Might Be Giants Concert!!!!!!!!! *FLAILFLAILFLAIL*
Dude, I have so much more respect for John and John now that I've seen them live. Not that I didn't respect them before. XD
I mean, they've been doing this for a really freaking long time. They started in the 80's and I'm pretty sure they're both 50 by now, but they still look like they completely love what they do. To be honest, that's something that I've been worried about as a musician; what if my enthusiasm about writing and performing is just fueled by the fact that I'm 19 and not particularly worried about the future?

They sang songs from all of their CDs, including their kid's albums, which made me super happy. And they sang with hand puppets at one point, called The *sigh* I'm beyond ready for my computer problems to be over. Can haz new laptop?

They sang songs from all of their CDs, including their kid's albums, which made me super happy. And they sang with hand puppets at one point, called The Avatars of They ("Your concert has been taken over by The Avatars of They!" "We would like to thank They Might Be Giants for opening for us..." XDDD). And there was a really freaking badass trumpet player!!! And confetti!!!!! The entire set was just really, really, really TMBGish. They gave two encores. :)))

Ok, so I have a massive fan crush on John Linnell. His lyrics are genius and the fact that some of them are ridiculousy morbid but put together with happy, upbeat music kind of makes me love him even more. XD He's probably the the reason that I've become obsessed with quirky electronic instruments. Also, he has this really sincere smile when he's doing solos. X]
I made myself sound like a total creeper just then to say that I've convinced myself that he smiled at me! I know that he probably didn't since the audience is dark and even if he did he was probably just performing, but a girl can hope! I freaked out a little. XD

Overall, GREAT concert. Probably the best one I've ever been to. :)

OH! And Johnathan Coulton opened for them! If you've never heard his stuff before, look him up! He was freaking hilarious, and a really good match for TMBG. :D
-----------
So that was Thursday night. Last night I went to Kids Got The Disco for the first time. :]
For people who aren't from Birmingham, KGTD is a local dj collaboration that throws huge dance parties every month. They do them at this really great venue/cafe called Bottletree, but since Bottletree is so small it's seriously just like drunken, constant contact insanity. This particular night was their two year anniversary, so there were probably even more people there than usual. O.o

I usually don't do well with huge social situations like that, but it was really cool because everyone was just sort of doing their own thing. No one around me was ever really dancing in the same way, like it would be in a club or something. And there was facepaint! It made me a lot more comfortable and the night way more enjoyable. I had an awesome time. :D

I made a lot of friends and got hit on by a drunk lesbian, which made the night that much better. XD

I've just about lost my vioce and haven't been able to function properly all day though. I should probably try to get some stuff done...

Anyway, all of this insanity can only be topped by BSC Concert Choir tour and spring break with italyatmidnight! 5 more days! SO excited!!! ^_________^

...Which means that I should get off and finish my laundry. Bye bye, Loves. <3

(I'm so hesitant about making a "partying" tag it's not even funny...)

The One When Meg Missed Live100.5

Really. Stop it.Collapse )

I just needed to get that out. If you read that, thank you for listening. :D

Anyway, HOMEWORK TIIIIME~!

Bonus:

One of the best AMV's I've seen in a long time, and I'd never even heard of the movie or band before. Thank you, kantama ! I really do heart my Lanie-Face. :D <3

Edit: Apparently one of the hosts for the Newstalk100 is the kind of person who would join a boycott group to troll around. At this point there's not much I can do beyond not listening to the station and sending emails, but hopefully others will pick up on the fact that this guy is apparently a complete asshole.

The One Where Meg Joined an MMO

I made a quiche today.
While it turned out really well, and was REALLY good, I'm saddened by the fact that this Chik-fil-A sandwich that I'm about to eat will taste so much better.

So Friday sucked.Collapse )
Hang with me in my MMO / so many places we can go-oooo~Collapse )
Tomorrow may or may not suck.Collapse )
Woah. Long Post is long and rambly. Sahhry. Makes up for my lack of updates, yeah?
Happy Free Chocolate Day, loves!  ♥

Y'all just can't get rid of me. :DCollapse )
*ramble ramble ramble* OKAY. NO MORE EDITS, SWEARSIES.

I'll get something done eventually.

But it's definitely not going to be that meme I started forever ago since I'm doing a completely different one.

1. Put your music player of choice on shuffle.
2. The first lines of twenty songs = a poem; the first line of the twenty-first song is the title.
For bonus points, see how many sources you recognize!

She's Only 18

Brothers and sisters, put this record down
Crowded streets are cleared away, one by one
I'd moved to Rockferry tomorrow
Baby hair with a woman's eyes
I'm gonna make you bend and break

Maybe I act on confused behavior
Such a lonely day, and it's mine
Glamorous indie rock 'n' roll is what I need
My song is love
You could see me reaching, so why couldn't you have met me halfway?

Please could you stop the noise? I'm trying to get some rest.
Alrighty then... picture this if you will.
Die Eier Von Satan
Humble and helpless, learning to pray
Forty detectives this week

You've gotten hideous
Sleep will not come to this tired body now
Say goodnight and go
The moment I said it
Keep yo hoes in check

...That was a fail. XD

explicitlyriks : Welcome to my flist!  ♥
Jamila, like myself and stardustonsable and unitofmeasure , is another insane, non-religious black woman with natural hair and loud music on her iPod. She rocks. Go friend her, if you don't have enough of me in your life. :3

Interim is almost overrrrr. I DON'T WANNA DO REAL WORK AGAIN! T_T
List Time!
(+) I'm involved in getting two bands started! One is for my friend (and house director XD) Lauren, who really wants to do some serious giging. She's a composition major who does song writing, so she's wanting to start promoting herself as a singer/guitarist and a writer. And imma help! We've got a bassist and a drummer who are on board too! :D We've already decided to cover Love Game by Lady GaGa. I hope you guys still love me and come see us. :P
The other one will probably be more relaxed. I don't really think that anyone involved is interested in doing any gigs, but I'm excited to collaborate with them! There's me, a pianist, and a percussionist. From what I can tell, they're a little more out there than Lauren is, who just wants to do acoustic sets, so that'll be funnnnn. >:)
This is the most musicianly I've felt in a long time. I was starting to get a little bummed out with not being able to play in an orchestra or even a chamber group, but maybe a change in genre was just what I need. I'm stoked. ^_^
(-) No more Hair auditioning. I think I mentioned this in my last post. :(
If I were to audition and be accepted, there would be no backing out. At all. And I suspect that I'll be suicidal enough this semester, so I probably don't need a lot of musical theatre majors on top of that, WHO I LOVE SO MUCH <3333
It would be fun. But this way I'll have time for other things. :]
(+) I'm pretty anxious about my Science, Music, Physics class! I've heard great things about the teacher and it should be an interesting subject. ^_^
(-) Science, Music, Physics is an honor's course. >_________<
(+) I going to start my voice lessons soon! :D
(-) I'm also continuing my violin and piano lessons soon. We'll see how that works out. D:
(+) I'm excited to see what New Music Ensemble will involve this semester! It's my favorite class so far, a lot of my friends decided to register after seeing our concert in the fall, and last year for spring semester there was an assignment for the composition students to make a cover! :)
(-+?) I also have Concert Choir, Hilltop Singers, possibly a string quartet, and the choir at 1st UMC to go to rehearse and practice for. Which are all fun, otherwise I wouldn't be in them, but it's a lot.

...I need someone to shake me next time I'm registering for classes and go "No, Meghan, NO." WHY AM I SUCH AN OVERACHIEVER?

Edit: BONUS!

AMANDA PALMER AND NEIL GAIMAN ARE ENGAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

MemememememememememeCollapse )

I'm 19! :D
Which I guess is cool and stuff... YAY BUYING CIGARETTES FOR MY FRIENDS?
...I just realized that I celebrated my birthday over the course of four days. >.>

Thursday, I hung out with italyatmidnight since she was leaving to go back to Rollins this past weekend. We went to Surin for lunch (:d) and saw The Princess and the Frog! SO. CUTE. *FLAIL*
And funny! I lol'd a few times. :)
Rachel's convinced that I'm Princess Tiana, specifically because we both put hot sauce in everything. :P  ♥
After that, I went back to BSC and hung out with some friends that I hadn't seen since break started. We're all very strange people. And when we're in a room together we make decisions on getting triforce tattoos, attempt to dance like Sakira, name miniature llamas from Peru, and dance to all 8 minutes of Funky Town by Lipps Inc. ♥

Friday I went home and had dinner with my family. My dad made catfish. :D

Saturday was actually my birthday. What's On 2nd + Urban Standard coffee and grilled cheese + LABRET PIERCING finally + a triforce tattoo for Elizabeth - going out to a party out of fear of bleeding out of my LABRET PIERCING and being too drunk to stop it = A Very Very Good Day. :) :) :)

Yesterday, I had lunch with my family (with little reaction from my family about the piercing, except from my mom, of course. Maybe they're just expecting it now? :P). And then I got to hang out with mah kantama !!!!! ^_______________^
This went from watching a movie at her house with her roommate Caitlin and her friend Matt, to meeting up with her dad at O'Henry's (PS: Matt gives awesome massages. ToT It's just weird to get them in the middle of O'Henrys...), to going salsa dancing. (PS: Matt is also a really good salsa dancer too. All of that hip action made me feel inadequate as a woman. T-T) ...So that was cool and spontaneous. :D

...And now I have a cold. :'(

And now for something that's never been done in this journal: A Few Narcissistic Photos To Show Off a New Piercing! =D :P
I'm really not this into myself, swearsies. T_TCollapse )

Am I allowed to give up on this meme yet? I way behind. Will you all still love me?
